Manila, 26 February 2015 – For the fifth consecutive year, technology company The Linde Group will support the Shell Eco-marathon and supply participating fuel cell-powered vehicles with hydrogen. Last year, Linde became a Global Partner of this event, one of the world’s most challenging student innovation competitions that takes place annually in Europe, America and Asia.
“Each year the student teams demonstrate the enormous potential of fuel cells with extraordinary ingenuity and enthusiasm. It is no surprise that by now, hydrogen has achieved a top rank among alternative, zero-emission fuels,” says Markus Bachmeier, Head of Hydrogen Solutions at Linde. “We look forward to once again supporting the student teams as best as we can – providing not only fuel, but also practical assistance and advice.”
In Asia, Linde Philippines participated at the event held in Manila for the second consecutive year. Alexander Coo, National Director of Sales and Marketing for Linde Philippines said, “The Shell Eco-marathon event is an excellent educational platform which provides Linde Philippines with an opportunity to work alongside with future engineers who are gaining hands-on experience in developing smarter and sustainable transportation solutions. We are pleased to have our engineers on site to provide technical support to Shell and the students ranging from ensuring the safe refuelling of the vehicles, checking their prototype car engines for leaks and monitoring the performance of the cars during the event.”
As the event’s exclusive hydrogen partner, Linde will supply ready-to-install gas cylinders to the student teams who use fuel cell power units for their competition vehicles. This year, a total of 54 teams are expected to compete in the fuel cell category at the three events which will take place in Manila, Philippines (26 February – 1 March); Detroit, USA (9-12 April); and Rotterdam, Netherlands (21-24 May).
Linde’s long-standing expertise in hydrogen enables it not only to manage the safe handling of hydrogen logistics but also to provide valuable technical support and advice to the teams from across the world.
Linde is the world’s largest manufacturer of hydrogen plants and is the only company worldwide that has the technology and expertise to cover the entire hydrogen chain – from the production of hydrogen using fossil and renewable energy sources through compression, liquefaction, storage and transport, to fuelling solutions for compressed and liquid hydrogen.
To date, Linde has equipped over 90 fuelling stations in 15 countries with innovative hydrogen refuelling technology. Furthermore, Linde is exploring new ways of producing renewable, zero-carbon hydrogen, using wind, for example.
